Grueby, William H.

    0.04 sec.
Grueby, William H. (1867–1925) potter; birthplace unknown. He trained in Chelsea, Mass., under John G. Low, and then set up his Grueby Faience Company in 1894 (incorporated in 1897). His hand-thrown pottery won many awards internationally and the L. C. Tiffany Company bought Grueby bases for its stained glass lampshades. His success did not bring him wealth; numerous competitors flooded the market with imitations. He also founded Grueby Pottery (incorporated, 1907).
