Grumman, Leroy (Randle) (1895–1982) aeronautical engineer; born in Huntington, N.Y. As general manager of the Loening Aeronautical Corporation (1921–29) and president of Grumman Aircraft Corporation (1930–46), he developed a series of successful Navy aircraft. These included the "Wildcat," "Bearcat" and "Tiger Cat." He was enshrined in the Aviation Hall of Fame (1972).
