Grushin, Petr Dmitrievich 

Born Jan. 2 (15), 1906, in Vol’sk, now Saratov Oblast. Soviet scientist in aviation technology; academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966; corresponding member, 1962). Hero of Socialist Labor (1958). Member of the CPSU since 1931.

After leaving the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) (1932), Grushin was a manager in technical engineering work. In 1948–51 he was dean of an MAI department. Since 1953 he has been manager of an enterprise. His main work has been in designing flying instruments. At the Twenty-third and Twenty-fourth party Congresses he was elected a member of the CPSU Central Committee. He was a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR at the fifth and sixth convocations. He has been awarded the Lenin Prize (1963), as well as five Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, and various medals.
