Grusi
(Gurunsi, Grunshi), a people inhabiting the north of Ghana and the bordering areas of Upper Volta (between the towns of Wessa and Léo). In Ghana the Grusi number 300,000 and in Upper Volta, 250,000 (1967, estimate). Their language belongs to the Gur group. The Grusi are subdivided into tribes, including the Kurumba, Kasena, and Tamprussi. The majority cling to traditional local beliefs; a small part of them are Christians and Muslims. Their chief occupations are agriculture (millet, corn, rice, and peanuts) and cattle raising. There is extensive seasonal migration to the southern plantation regions of Ghana.
