Gubarev, Aleksei Aleksandrovich
Born Mar. 29, 1931, in the village of Gvardeitsy, Borskoe Raion, Kuibyshev Oblast. Pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR. Hero of the Soviet Union (1975, 1978). Member of the CPSU since 1957. Gubarev served in air force units after graduating from a naval aviation school in 1952. He graduated from the Air Force Academy (now the Iu. A. Gagarin Air Force Academy) in 1961 and was named a cosmonaut in 1963. From Jan. 11 to Feb. 9, 1975, Gubarev flew with G. M. Grechko as commander of Soyuz 17, which docked with the Salyut 4 space station. Gubarev’s flight time was 29 days 13 hr 20 min. Between Mar. 2 and Mar. 10, 1978, flying aboard Soyuz 28, Gubarev and V. Remek docked with the Salyut 6 space station, which was being manned by Iu. V. Romanenko and G. M. Grechko and which was already docked with Soyuz 27. Gubarev’s flight time was 7 days 22 hr 16 min. Gubarev has been awarded the title of Hero of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, two Orders of Lenin, and various medals. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
