Gudbrands Valley

 Norwegian Gudbrandsdalen

Valley, south-central Norway. It extends about 140 mi (225 km) above Lake Mjøsa and Lillehammer. It was the scene of severe fighting in World War II in which the Norwegians and British attempted to hold off a German invasion. It is the setting for Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt.

DOLE HORSE* The Dole horse, also referred to as Gudbrandsdal, Dole-Gudbrandsdal, or the Norway Dolehest, originated from the North Sea Coast, in the region of Oslo.
Indeed, for nearly 50 years I've owned a handsome 946-page edition of the Norwegian Nobel Prize winner Sigrid Undset's Kristin Lavransdatter but after numerous attempts have never got beyond the opening paragraph that begins: 'When the lands and goods of Ivar Gjesling the younger, of Sundbu, were divided after his death in 1306, his lands in Sil of Gudbrandsdal fell to his daughter Ragnfrid and her husband Bjorgulfson.
Cruise through the narrow Naeroy Fjords, visiting beautiful island towns with distinctive architecture, then sail through Gudbrandsdal Valley to Lillehammer and the picturesque Lake Mjosa, the county's largest lake.
