Guillaume Cale
Year of birth unknown; died June 1358 in Clermont-en-Beauvaisis. Leader of the Jacquerie, a peasant rebellion of 1358. A peasant from the village of Mello. In order to unify the rebelling peasants, Guillaume Cale tried to introduce some organization in their ranks; he also tried to coordinate their actions and attract urban dwellers to the uprising. He was treacherously captured by the order of Charles the Bad (king of Navarre) and was tortured and executed. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
