Gukasian, Gukas Oganesovich 

Born May 20 (June 1), 1899; died May 14, 1920. Active participant in the struggle for Soviet power in Armenia; one of the organizers of Spartak, the first union of Communist youth of Armenia (April 1919). Born into a family of poor peasants in the village of Kalara, Yerevan Province. Member of the Communist Party from 1917.

Gukasian was elected to the Transcaucasian Center of the Communist Youth League in September 1919 and to the Armenian Committee of the RCP (Bolshevik) in late January 1920. He was the head of the Bolshevik organization in Kars in April and May of 1920. During the armed uprising in May 1920 he was chairman of the Military Revolutionary Committee in Kars. He was killed in combat with the Dashnaks near the village of Argina. One of the raions in the Armenian SSR is named after Gukasian, and a monument has been erected to him in Yerevan.
