Fagniez, Gustave 

Born Oct. 6, 1842, in Paris; died June 18, 1927, in Meudon. French historian. Member of the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences (1901).

Fagniez was a founder of the Historical Society of Paris (1874) and the founder of the Revue historique. His works dealt primarily with the socioeconomic history of France between the 13th and 17th centuries, drawing on archival materials. Fagniez’s publication of documents concerning the history of handicrafts and trade in medieval France was of great importance.
