Guzhenko, Timofei Borisovich 

Born Feb. 15. 1918, in the village of Tatarinovo, Kolpniansk Raion, Kursk Oblast. Soviet statesman. Member of the CPSU since 1941. Son of a blacksmith.

Guzhenko graduated from the Odessa Institute of Engineers of Water Transport in 1942 and from the Naval Academy in Leningrad in 1951. He worked in the Murmansk commercial seaport as a mechanic, section chief, and secretary of the party bureau, as well as in other positions, during 1942–49. He was head of the commercial ports of Kholmsk and Korsakov and chief of the Sakhalin Sea Steamship Company during 1951–60. He was chief of administration in the Ministry of the Merchant Marine of the USSR from I960 to 1962. From 1962 to 1966 he worked in the apparatus of the Central Committee of the CPSU. Guzhenko was first deputy minister of the Merchant Marine from 1966 to 1970 and became minister of the Merchant Marine of the USSR in January 1970. He was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU at the Twenty-fourth Congress of the party in 1971. He was a deputy to the eighth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and various medals.
