Gylden, Johan August Hugo
Born May 29, 1841, in Helsingfors; died Nov. 9. 1896, in Stockholm. Swedish astronomer. Gylden graduated from the university in Helsingfors and worked in Leipzig, Gotha, and Pulkovo (1862–71). In 1871 he became director of the observatory in Stockholm. In the 1870’s through 1890’s, Gylden considerably developed the theory of the perturbation of comets and asteroids and worked out the mathematical apparatus of the theory of perturbations.
