HAMR(Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording) A future technique from Seagate for increasing the bit density on magnetic disks by using a more stable recording medium that does not succumb to the superparamagnetic limit. In order to write the bit into the medium, a laser heats the area momentarily, which then cools down. HAMR is expected in the 2010 time frame. See superparamagnetic limit and OAW. The magnetic head technology will continue to advance with TMR, CPP, and HAMR (Seagate) technology through 2008, and the 1990s' research into perpendicular recording is looking more likely. Drug companies seem to be regulars to the HAMR pages as well. |
