aacPlusAn enhanced AAC format from Coding Technologies (www.codingtechnologies.com) that delivers near CD-quality sound in as little as 32 Kbps. aacPlus Version 1 uses Spectral Band Replication (SBR), a proprietary Coding Technologies' technique that halves the sampling rate, but encodes the missing higher frequencies at a rate of 1.5 Kbps and stores them in the auxiliary data fields of the MPEG format. SBR is also used in the mp3PRO format (see mp3PRO).

AAC-LD is a low-delay version of the MPEG AAC codec family, which includes the AAC-LC codec used by the iPod and ISDB television, as well as the HE-AAC codec used in XM Radio and 3G mobile music download services. MPEG-4 HE-AAC v2, also selected by organizations like 3GPP for audio delivery to mobile phones, provides high audio quality for applications demanding lowest data rates. High Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding with parametric stereo extensions (known as HE-AAC v2) provides the highest possible audio quality at previously unseen bit rates as low as 24 kilobits per second. |
