HP 9000

A family of servers from HP that are based on HP's PA-RISC architecture and run under the HP/UX and Linux operating systems. HP 9000s come in a wide range of models from single-CPU, entry-level machines to high-end Superdome models that support up to 128 processors and 1TB of memory.

From Motorola to PA-RISC
The first HP 9000 was introduced in 1982 and used the Motorola 68000 CPU. Within a few years, HP migrated the family to its PA-RISC architecture, which is expected to last until 2008.

From PA-RISC to Itanium
HP 9000 Integrity Servers offer the same wide range of models as PA-RISC, but are based on Intel's Itanium CPUs, which HP helped design. The Itanium-based machines are the next generation of the HP 9000 line. See Itanium.
