HSL (1) (High-Speed Link) An acronym used for a variety of high-speed trunk and channel architectures in telephony and mainframes.(2) (Hue Saturation Lightness) A color space that is widely used in graphics applications. HSL was developed by George Joblove in 1978, the same year that Alvy Ray Smith published HSB. Both HSL and HSB were created to select colors more intuitively than by entering RGB or CMYK numbers. See HSB for more details and comparisons. See HSLA, HSB, CIE Lab and color space.
