Haddam Meadows State Park Location: 3 miles south of Higganum off Route 9A. Situated in the Connecticut River flood plain. Facilities: Picnic tables (é), boat launch, pit toilets. Activities: Boating, fishing, picnicking, field sports. Special Features: In colonial times the broad floodplain that is now Haddam Meadows State Park played an important role in the agricultural economy of the area. Fertilized each year by spring flooding along the banks of the Connecticut River, it yielded abundant crops of hay and grain. After the harvest, the meadow was used as common pasture for all who owned livestock in Haddam. Today the meadow is a popular spot for all types of field sports, and the Connecticut River offers water-based recreation.
