Hall, Asaph (1829–1907) astronomer; born in Goshen, Conn. A carpenter at age 16, he went to Harvard College Observatory in 1857 and became an expert computer of orbits. From 1862 until 1891, he worked at the naval observatory in Washington, D.C. In 1877, he discovered and named the two satellites of Mars, Deimos and Phobos. How to thank TFD for its existence?
