Hambridge, Jay (Edward John) (1867–1924) painter, theorist; born in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada. He ran away from home (1882), settled in New York City, and became an illustrator. He is known for his artistic theory of dynamic symmetry, which is based on the principle of organic growth.
