Fierz, Hans Eduard
Born Jan. 5, 1882, in Zürich; died there Aug. 25, 1953. Swiss organic chemist. Fierz became a professor at the Technical University of Zurich in 1917. He improved the methods of producing synthetic dyes (primarily azo dyes) and intermediates of the benzene, naphthalene, and anthracene derivatives. He also studied the sulfonation of naphthalene.
