Hapgood, Isabel Florence (1850–1928) translator; born in Boston, Mass. She spent ten years learning every Germanic and Romance language before starting her career in 1886 as a translator, essayist, and reviewer. From her voluminous output she is best remembered for her many translations of Russian masterpieces, particularly Turgenev's novels and stories (16 vols. 1905). How to thank TFD for its existence?
