hardware interface

An architecture used to interconnect two pieces of equipment. It includes the design of the plug and socket, the type, number and purpose of the wires and the electrical signals that are passed across them. USB, FireWire, Ethernet, parallel and serial ports as well as CompactFlash cards, PCI cards and PC Cards are all examples of hardware interfaces (devices connecting to other devices).

AMD (NYSE:AMD) developed the specification in collaboration with industry partners, including Raritan Computer, to enable hardware vendors to connect several different management subsystems to a common hardware interface within a server platform.
AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that software developers can put the eIpedal to the metaleIU for emerging stream computing applications, making use of a new thin hardware interface known as CTMe (for "Close To Metal") to increase processing application performance by as much as eightfold more than traditional 3D application programming interfaces (APIs).
Engineered specifically for compute-only systems such as workstations and servers, the AMD Stream Processore makes use of AMDeIUs new thin hardware interface called CTMe to drive substantial performance gains in areas such as financial analysis, seismic migration analysis, and life sciences research, among others.
