Aa Head of the Islamic-Christian dialogue committee, Hareth Shehab, stressed that Sfeir had always advocated consensus among the Lebanese as the best form of democracy.
In Sadr City, hundreds crowded the street outside the office of Qom-based anti-US cleric Muqtada al-Sadr to listen to a Friday prayer sermon given by one of Sadr's aides, Hareth Adthari, who quoted Sadr as blaming the US for the blasts.
The slain man, Hareth al-Obaidi, 45, who headed the human-rights committee in parliament, was an outspoken critic of human-rights abuse by security forces inside Iraqi jails.
