Hariotta
(Hariotta raleighana), a fish of the subclass Holocephali. It is up to 60 cm long, and its snout is long and lanceolate. The thoracic fins are large and wing-shaped, and the caudal seta is very long. The Hariotta is found in the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean. It lives at great depths (more than 1,200 m) and feeds primarily on benthic invertebrates. The Hariotta is an extremely rare catch and therefore has no marketable value, although the hepatic fat is very valuable as a medicinal remedy. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
