Harkins, Paul Donal (1904–84) soldier; born in Boston, Mass. A 1929 West Point graduate, he served as a staff officer in Italy and France during World War II. In his last assignment before retirement, he commanded the U.S. Military Assistance Command in South Vietnam during the early years (1962–64) of the American build-up there.
