Härnösand

Härnösand (hărnösänd`), city (1990 est. pop. 19,200), capital of Västernorrland co., E Sweden, on the Gulf of Bothnia at the mouth of the Ångermanälven River. Its harbor, icebound in winter, is a center of the coastal trade of N and E Sweden. Forest products are the chief exports of Härnösand. Manufactures include machinery, processed tobacco, and ships. The city was chartered in 1585 and has long been a cultural center of Norrland. It was burned in 1721 by Russians.

Harnosand & the Province of Angermanland Just where the Angermanalven river flows into the Bothnian Sea some 40 km (25 miles) north of Sundsvall, lies the little charming town Harnosand.
For 18 years, from 1971 to 1989, Eva taught at the school for the deaf in Harnosand, while Folke was a minister at the cathedral there.
The one at Harnosand, on the east coast, about halfway up the Gulf of Bothnia, has quite lot in common with the Linkoping library (AR May 2001).
