Harper, Michael (Steven) (1938– ) poet, writer; born in New York City. He studied at City College (1954), California State: Los Angeles (B.A. 1961; M.A. 1963), the University of Iowa (M.A. 1963), and the University of Illinois (1970–71). He taught at many institutions, notably at Brown University (1983), and lived in Providence, R.I. He wrote poems linked to the sensibilities of African-Americans, as in Healing Song for the Inner Ear (1985). How to thank TFD for its existence?
