Hart, Gary (Warren) (b. Hartpence) (1936– ) lawyer, U.S. senator; born in Ottawa, Kans. He studied both law and divinity at Yale and became a lawyer in Colorado. He managed George McGovern's presidential campaign (1972) and served in the U.S. Senate (Dem., Colo.; 1976–84). He made a strong run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1984 and began in 1988 as the frontrunner. He had to abandon his 1988 campaign amid allegations of infidelity, prompted by his presence aboard the vessel Monkey Business in the company of a model, Donna Rice. He returned to Colorado to practice law. How to thank TFD for its existence?
