On the northeastern border of GA, northeast of Athens; organized Dec 7, 1853 from Elbert and Franklin counties. Name Origin: For Nancy (Morgan) Hart (1735?-1830?), spy, sharpshooter, and heroine of the American Revolution. Called "War Woman" by the Indians.

Area (sq mi): 256.42 (land 232.21; water 24.21). Pop per sq mi: 103.50.
Pop 2005: 24,036. State rank: 72. Pop change: 2000-20005 4.50%; 1990-2000 16.70%. Pop 2000: 22,997 (White 78.60%; Black or African American 19.40%; Hispanic or Latino 0.90%; Asian 0.50%; Other 1.00%). Foreign born: 1.30%. Median age: 39.20.
Income 2000: per capita $16,714; median household $32,833; Pop below poverty level: 14.80%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $21,115-$21,663.

In central KY, northeast of Bowling Green; organized Jan 28, 1819 from Hardin and Barren counties. Name Origin: For Nathaniel G.T. Hart (1784-1813), lawyer, merchant, and officer in the War of 1812.

Now the superintendent of Hart County Schools, a largely rural district in south central Kentucky, he wanted to improve the district's graduation rate and believed that a mentoring program would be just the way to reach the students most at risk of not completing high school SOLUTION Line's prep work this time around began with investigating why certain students were dropping out.
The board is considering two candidates for county administrator: Jon Caime, county administrator for Hart County in northeast Georgia; and Jeff Spartz, former administrator in Hennepin County, Minnesota.
The new hospital will replace Ty Cobb's two current facilities, Cobb Memorial Hospital and Hart County Hospital.
