Haute-Saone

Haute-Saône 

a department in eastern France. Area, 5,300 sq km. Population, 220,000 (1975). The capital is Vesoul. Industry employs 36 percent of the work force, and agriculture, 22 percent (1968). Haute-Saône has foundries and metalworking and food-processing enterprises; there are cotton mills in the foothills of the Vosges. Livestock is raised, and grains and potatoes are grown, mainly for local consumption.
