Hawes, Josiah Johnson (1808–1908) photographer, inventor; born in East Dudbury, Mass. A pioneer in daguerreotype photography, he manufactured camera equipment at Southworth and Hawes (1843–60) and invented new products like the Grand Parlor Stereoscope viewer.
