Hazel Mouse
(Muscardinus avellanarius), a mammal of the family Muscardinidae of the order Rodentia. Body length, up to 9 cm; tail length, up to 8 cm. The tail is evenly covered with short, dense hairs. The upperpart of the body is yellowish red. The hazel mouse inhabits the coniferous-broad-leaved and broad-leaved forests of mountains and plains from the central part of Western Europe to the Volga and the middle Don. It feeds on the seeds of trees and shrubs. The hazel mouse bears two litters per year. Its numbers are few almost everywhere. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
