Hecht, Anthony (Evan) (1923– ) poet; born in New York City. He studied at Bard College, N.Y. (B.A. 1944), Columbia University (M.A. 1950), and has taught at many institutions, notably at Rochester University, N.Y., beginning in 1967. His poetry is distinguished by its classical and mythological images, as in Millions of Strange Shadows (1977).
