Hecker, Friedrich Franz Karl (frē`drĭkh fränts kärl hĕk`ər), 1811–81, German revolutionary. A lawyer, he was a leader of the radical republicans in the grand duchy of Baden and during the revolutionary agitation of 1847–49 in Germany, he helped organize the demands for democratic parliamentary government. Prior to the meeting of the Frankfurt Parliament Frankfurt Parliament, 1848–49, national assembly convened at Frankfurt on May 18, 1848, as a result of the liberal revolution that swept the German states early in 1848.
