Heda, Willem Claesz

    0.01 sec.
Heda, Willem Claesz

Born circa 1594 in Haarlem; died there circa 1680. Dutch painter.

Heda worked in Haarlem, where he became dean of the painters’ guild in 1631. He was influenced by P. Claesz. In his mature period he painted still lifes, specializing in “breakfast” pieces, for example, Breakfast With Blackberry Pie (1631, Dresden Picture Gallery). Heda subtly conveys the texture and light-reflecting properties of objects. A gray-brown palette predominates.
