Heineman, Ben (Walter) (1914– ) railroad executive, lawyer; born in Wausau, Wis. He had a 20-year law career in private practice and government service in Chicago, Washington, and Algiers before reviving the fortunes of the Chicago & North Western Railway Co. as chairman and CEO (1956–72) by streamlining and modernizing its Chicago commuter lines. He was founder, chairman, and CEO of Northwest Industries (1968–85). |
