Hejazi, Said Mohammad Baqer 

Born 1896. Iranian writer.

Hejazi, after studying in France to become a radio engineer, graduated from the Higher Political School in Tehran and held several governmental posts. During the 1930’s he published the sociopolitical journal Iran-e Emruz. Hejazi is the author of the realistic novels Homa (1927), Parichehr (1929), Ziba (1930), and Firuza (part 2 published as Typhoon), as well as the novella The Dervish Ghorban (1937). The main theme of these works is the tragedy of the Iranian woman, deprived of all civil rights.

Hejazi has also written short stories about the everyday life of the middle strata of city dwellers. These stories, which were published in the collections Thoughts (1940), The Mirror (1942), and The Cup (1945), are written in the traditional didactic tone of classical Persian literature. Hejazi has also written plays on themes of everyday life, history, and social issues. They include The Doll, Haji Agha the Innovator, Hafiz, War, and Make Mah-mud-Agha the Deputy.
