| What I propose is a much simpler, heliocentric system, with the sun as center. Although Copernicus had provided a new heliocentric system of the world in 1543, the dominant interpretation of his work in Northern Europe was developed by the students and colleagues of Philipp Melanchthon at the University of Wittenberg. Anyone was free to write on the heliocentric system as a hypothesis and to seek an irrefutable mathematical or physical proof of the mobility of the earth. |
