In northeastern TX, southwest of Tyler; organized Apr 27, 1846 from Houston County. Name Origin: For Gen. James Pinckney Henderson (1808-58), TX minister to the U.S. (1844), first governor of the state of TX (1846-47), and U.S. senator (1857-58).
