a city in the E Netherlands, in Overijssel province on the Twente Canal: industrial centre, esp for textiles. Pop.: 81 000 (2003 est.)

Hengelo 

a city in The Netherlands, in the province of Over-ijssel. Population, 72,000 (1975). Hengelo is a railroad junction and port on the Twenthekanaal, which flows to the Rhine. A center of the textile and garment industries, it also has enterprises of the machine-building industry, which mainly produce electrical equipment, and chemical plants, which use local rock salt.
