Hancock, Herbie

 orig. Herbert Jeffrey Hancock

(born April 12, 1940, Chicago, Ill., U.S.) U.S. pianist, composer, and bandleader. He was educated at Grinnell College. Part of the superb rhythm section of Miles Davis's mid-1960s group, he led the group after Davis left. In the 1970s he became involved in funk music, and later disco, while continuing to tour with jazz groups, including that of Wynton Marsalis. In 1986 he acted in and scored 'Round Midnight (1986, Academy Award). His later career was notably diverse.


Hancock, (Herbert Jeffrey) Herbie (1940–  ) jazz musician; born in Chicago. He was a classically-trained pianist who emerged with Miles Davis in 1963 and began leading his own stylistically wide-ranging groups in 1968.

The Park Lane revival night at the venue in Hertford Place, Spon End, will feature everything from Herbie Hancock to Human League, from 10pm until 2.
The task of keeping the NeverEndingSong going 24 hours a day will be charged to a pair of tagteaming quartets from The AllStars Collective, an elite group of 'unsung' session musicians, who have notched up live and recording credits with some of the world's biggest stars, including Michael Jackson, Herbie Hancock, Amy Winehouse and Stevie Wonder.
Among those who played Montreux this year were Steely Dan, Herbie Hancock, Black Eyed Peas, Alice Cooper, Steve Winwood, Monty Alexander, Lily Allen, Wyclef Jean, Marianne Faithfull, John Fogerty, Grace Jones and B.
