Týrlová, Hermína

Born Dec. 11, 1900, in Pribram. Czechoslovak film animator and artist. Honored Artist of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic.

Tyrlová began working in motion pictures in the mid-1920’s. In 1944 she made her debut as a director with the animated puppet film Ferda the Ant. Her motion picture Lullaby gained wide popularity. Tyrlová used Czech folk tales as the basis for the films Tale of a Dragon (1953), Micek Flicek’s Adventures (1956), and The Lost Doll (1959). In the late 1960’s she and J. Pinkavá shot films for children using both actors and puppets: The InterestingLetter (1961), The Knot in the Kerchief (1962), The Game (1963), and Boy or Girl (1966). In the early 1970’s, Tyilová made a television movie in several parts, The Adventures of a Blue-eyed Girl. She received the State Prize of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic in 1952.
