(Hungarian, Hernád), a river in Czechoslovakia and Hungary, a left tributary of the Sajo River (in the Danube system). Length, 286 km (according to other data, 190 km);

basin area, 5,500 sq km. Its source is on the slopes of the Low Tatra Mountains. It has several hydroelectric power plants. In Czechoslovakia, the cities of Spišská Nová Ves and Košice are on the Hornád.
