Hershey, uninc. city (1990 pop. 11,860), Dauphin co., S central Pa.; founded 1903 as a planned community built for workers at the Hershey Corp., the chocolate manufacturer that remains its largest employer. Tools and dies, machinery, and explosives are also manufactured, and farm products are processed. The city is a major tourist attraction, with the Hersheypark theme park and ZooAmerica, the Hotel Hershey resort, and museums. The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of Pennsylvania State Univ. and the Milton Hershey School, a residential school for children with financial and social needs, are also there.
