Hertzsprung gap [′hert·spru̇ŋ ‚gap]
(astronomy)
A gap on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram between giant stars of spectral types A0 and G0, caused by the fact that the movement of stars across this region occupies a relatively brief time.
