Hewitt Lake National Wildlife Refuge Address: c/o Bowdoin NWR HC 65, Box 5700 Malta, MT 59538 Phone: 406-654-2863; Established: 1938. Location: Northeastern Montana just west of Nelson Reservoir in Phillips County. Activities: Hunting. Special Features: A large shallow lake basin covers much of the refuge, with water absent some years. The alkaline nature of the lake precludes much vegetation growth. Habitats: 1,680 acres, comprising a shallow lake basin with little vegetation. Access: Limited by private ownership of surrounding areas; call refuge office for specific details.
