High Point State Park
Location:7 miles north of the town of Sussex via Route 23; or 4 miles south of Port Jervis, NY.
Facilities:50 tent campsites (no trailers), flush toilets, 2 group camps with pit toilets, 2 cabins, 1 group cabin, picnic areas, group picnic facilities with shelters, playgrounds, food concessions, cross-country ski center, ski rentals, multi-use trails, self-guided nature trail, bathhouse, boat launch, visitor center.
Activities:Camping, boating (electric motors only), canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, ice skating, ice fishing, snowmobiling, special deer hunt (November), historical programs (seasonal), nature programs (year round).
Special Features:High Point Monument, dedicated to the memory of all war veterans, is 220 feet high and is located 1,803 feet above sea level. The view from the top of the monument is a panorama of farmland and forest, hills and valleys, in three states. A segment of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes through the park (see separate entry in national trails section).
