Ben Nevis (nē`vĭs, nĕv`ĭs), peak, 4,406 ft (1,343 m) high, Highland, W Scotland, overlooking Glen Nevis; highest peak of Great Britain. Ruins of an observatory are on the summit, from which there is an impressive view, especially on the northeastern side with its precipice of more than 1,450 ft (442 m).

Snow lies in some parts all year. It consists of a superstructure of volcanic rocks surmounting the ancient schists of the Highlands.
