Highgate Cemetery

a graveyard located in the northern part of Greater London, in the residential district of Highgate. Karl Marx was buried in Highgate Cemetery on Mar. 17, 1883, and his wife Jenny Marx was also buried there. In 1903, V. I. Lenin and other delegates to the Second Congress of the RSDLP visited Marx’ grave. In 1954 the grave was transferred to another part of the cemetery, and the urn with the ashes of Marx’ daughter Eleanor Marx Aveling was also transferred. In 1956 a monument by the sculptor L. Bradshaw was erected on Marx’ grave.

H. Spencer, M. Faraday, G. Eliot, and other prominent figures of English science and culture are also buried in Highgate Cemetery.
