Hill, David Jayne (1850–1932) college administrator, diplomat; born in Plainfield, N.J. As president of Bucknell University (1879–88) and the University of Rochester (1888–95), he increased the endowment of both institutions. He was assistant secretary of state (1898–1902) and ambassador to Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Germany (1903–11). He opposed the League of Nations and the World Court.
