Hill, Patty Smith (1868–1946) educator, composer; born in Anchorage, Ky. Director of the Louisville Training School for Kindergarten and Primary Teachers (1893–1905), she wrote songs for children, one of which became "Happy Birthday to You." Joining Columbia University's Teachers College faculty (1905–35), she initiated curriculum reform, stressing the value of less structured classroom activities and of children's ability to learn through play.
